State of the Salmon facilitates collaboration among Pacific salmon specialists. Working to create the big picture of salmon status and trends, we rely on the excellent work that our colleagues conduct at smaller scales. And as we make connections across specialties, ultimately, the whole of the Pacific salmon knowledge base will be greater than the sum of its parts.

State of the Salmon cochairs the Salmonid Specialist Group (SSG), which was formed at the Wild Salmon Center in 2001. The group was established under the auspices of the IUCN (World Conservation Union) Species Survival Commission. The Wild Salmon Center is responsible for chairing and staffing the group; membership includes fisheries scientists and managers dedicated to protecting and restoring wild salmonids throughout their natural range. State of the Salmon is working under the guidance of the SSG to conduct species assessments throughout the North Pacific.
